Steve Schmidt, MCC Men’s Basketball Coach, has been named the 2021 Men’s Junior College Coach of the Year by the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan (BCAM). Awards will be conferred during the BCAM Hall of Fame Banquet in Pontiac in October.

Coach Schmidt led the Mott Bears to a 14-4 record and won the NJCAA Great Lakes District B Championship this season. The victory earned MCC a spot in the National Junior College Athletic Association’s Division II tournament in Danville, Ill. This year’s national tournament will mark the Bears’ 10th appearance under Schmidt, whose 750 victories in 30 years are the most by any men’s coach in Michigan college basketball history. MCC has won four national championships under Schmidt, the most recent in 2012.
