The accident occurred about 6:30 a.m. Friday near U.S. 24 Dixie Highway and northbound I-75 in Springfield Township. Wolf, a motorcycle patrol officer, was reportedly hit by a car driven by a 72-year-old man and was trapped beneath the car. The other driver was hauling an empty trailer at the time.
The motorist, who authorities described as “very cooperative,” proceeded several miles before pulling into a rest stop near Holly, where witnesses saw what had happened and called police.

Police didn’t say why the driver didn’t stop sooner. No charges have been filed and the investigation is ongoing.
State police Col. Kriste Kibbey Etue said at a news conference that Wolf’s colleagues have been hit hard by news of the accident.
“The Michigan State Police is a very tight-knit family and today our hearts are aching and very heavy,” Etue said. “Our troopers know the dangers they face each time they put the uniform on, but you need to know that the calling they have to serve the public is far stronger than the fear.”
Wolf’s marked police motorcycle was struck as he traveled north on Dixie Highway. The other driver reportedly switched lanes abruptly to merge onto I-75 when the collision occurred.
A section of I-75 northbound is expected to remain closed until about 4 p.m. Friday police complete their investigation, state police Lt. Michael Shaw said.
Wolf was part of a metro detail based out of Taylor, and previously had served at Jackson and Flint posts. The married father of four has been a trooper since 2008.
State Police 1st Lt. Monica Yesh told MLive that Wolf is “a good man, a family man.”
State police said they would issue a statement if Wolf’s condition changes.
