Nessel's office said it received a tip in August 2019 that child sexually abusive material was being distributed from an IP address in Flint. A search warrant was issued to trace the IP, which came back to a home where Scheitler lived, Nessel's office said.

A review of Scheitler's electronic devices revealed more than 2,000 child sexually abusive images between an external hard drive, a laptop and a phone, officials said.
