LAFCU uses magic to encourage reading March 24
LAFCU, DeWitt District Library present virtual event for kids; a magic show, flute performance, storytime will encourage engaged reading
LAFCU is partnering with DeWitt District Library to present “March Magic,” one of the Michigan credit union’s Listen & Learn events that encourages reading through fun, interesting and informative ways. It’s directed to children up to age 12.
The free, virtual event is Wednesday, March 24, 7 p.m.
This interactive event includes a magic show, a flute performance and a storytime, all presented by Michigan residents. There will also be readings by area youth submitted through the DeWitt library. Three $20 eGift cards for a bookstore will be awarded. To register, visit www.lafcu.com/read.

“LAFCU’s ongoing Listen & Learn series is designed to help advance the communities we serve,” said Kelli Ellsworth Etchison, LAFCU chief marketing officer and chief diversity officer. “We want to help open the door to engaged reading for children. This leads to discovery, knowledge and a more motivated reader, which creates a circle of constant improvement.”

· Jeff the Magician, of East Lansing, will present the magic show.
· Lauren Schafer, a junior at Fowler High School, and her flute teacher, Melissa Klamer, will perform an excerpt from Mozart’s “The Magic Flute.”
· Mindy Schafer, assistant director/youth service librarian, DeWitt District Library, will read the children’s book, “Extra Yarn” by Mac Barnett.
Registrants will receive a web link to participate. The event can be viewed on computers, tablets, smartphones and smart TVs. No software is required to be downloaded.
