Battery on Maire Playground Ends in Arrest

City of Grosse Pointe police arrested a 28-year-old Detroit man May 7 for domestic battery after his wife reported that he assaulted her on the playground of Maire Elementary School.
He called the woman to find out where she was, then came to the school playground. The woman repeatedly refused to give him her cell phone. He grabbed her hair and snapping her neck backward causing her to nearly fall to the ground while taking her phone.
She then tried to call 911 from her daughter's cell phone but he took the phone away from her to prevent the call.

She got and their children got into her car and left. Her husband followed her to Moross and Gratiot. Then she contacted police.
Two other people at the playground witnessed the battery and provided witness statements. The man was charged, according to a report.
