Fraudulent Tax Return, FBI Caller in City of Grosse Pointe

City of Grosse Pointe police are investigating a fraudulently filed tax return reported by a 62-year-old resident. The resident received a letter from the IRS stating his 2012 return was under review. He contacted the IRS because he had not yet filed his 2012 taxes. The IRS instructed him to file a report with his local police department and state the IRS would then start their investigation, according to a report.
'FBI Agent' Asks for Cash
City of Grosse Pointe police are investigating a fraudulent call to a resident in which a caller identified himself as being from the FBI. The caller told the resident's son-in-law that she needed to pay $100 for a speeding ticket from a state trooper and if she did not pay it, it would be sent to the district attorney for a warrant. The resident never received a speeding infraction, according to a report.

Drunk Driver Arrested
City of Grosse Pointe police arrested a 34-year-old Grosse Pointe Woods man March 23 for drunk driving after he was stopped for driving 52 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone on Mack Avenue. He smelled of alcohol when the officer approached the car and he had glassy eyes. He was unsteady on his feet when asked to step from the vehicle, He was unable to complete field sobriety tests and had a 0.22 percent blood alcohol content, according to a report.

Mismailed Checks Fraudulently Used
City of Grosse Pointe police are investigating the fraudulent use of checks mailed to a city address for a former resident who now lives in the Park. The resident received a notice of insufficient funds and upon checking into it discovered a box of checks had been sent to her former address on Neff Road. A check had been written to DTE for more than $3,200 but was not paid, according to a report.
