Grosse Pointe Public Schools Closed Tomorrow
Officials Cite Extreme Cold As Reason For "Snow" Day

Thursday marked the area’s tenth day high temperatures below 20 degrees. With wind expected tomorrow, temperatures may fall as low as -20 degrees in some parts of the region, leading Grosse Pointe Public Schools to cancel all classes for Friday, Jan. 5.
According to the schools’ webpage: “With temperatures predicted below zero and windchill below -25, all schools within the Grosse Pointe Public School System will be closed tomorrow, Friday, January 5. There are a few program exceptions. High school athletic events including games and practices may continue as scheduled. High school athletes please contact your coach for details.For the convenience of GPPSS families, the childcare department will remain open at select sites. Monteith and Barnes are the only two buildings that will remain open for childcare.”
After ten days of arctic blast temperatures, schools across Metro Detroit and beyond are already announcing closures for tomorrow. Temperatures have hovered around zero for nearly two weeks, causing two tragic deaths as two elderly women with demential wandered into the snow and succumbed to exposure in the cold in Roseville and Shelby Township.
