Grosse Pointe Shores Plan To Restrict Parking Sparks Debate

Grosse Pointe Shores wants to build a new gatehouse for residents-only Osius Park because non-residents might use the parking lot.

A proposal to build a new gatehouse for Osius Park because nonresidents sometimes use the parking lot is raising eyebrows. Metro Times reported on the park plan after the Grosse Pointe Times described the new gatehouse – several paragraphs into a story about other improvements to the park.

The new gatehouse would actually eliminate 20 of the park’s 120 parking spaces, and isn’t needed for safety reasons, according to Grosse Pointe Shores Public Safety Director John Schulte, who says there’s actually very little crime in or near the park. Grosse Pointe Shores City Council’s next meeting is March 20.
