Grosse Pointe South Principal Supported at School Board Meeting
Some parents had called for Mousska Hamka to be fired after post-election remarks aimed to heal tensions at school.

(Posted Nov. 16, 2016) GROSSE POINTE WOODS, MI – Grosse Pointe South High School Principal Moussa Hamka who called for unity in the polarized aftermath of last week's presidential election won't be fired, school officials said at the end of a four-hour meeting Monday. WXYZ-TV reports some parents complained about Hamka's post-election use of the school's public address system to call for tough but respectful conversations about race, civil rights and race, as well as increased respect for minority, LGBTQ and other students who may feel threatened. More than 100 students and others showed up at the meeting to support Hamka, including some who relayed instances in the last week when they have felt threatened or bullied by a student who felt empowered by the election results.
