National Weather Service: Slippery Friday Commute

The National Weather Service is asking motorists to stay informed and be aware of the potentially hazardous roadways come Friday morning. Michigan is expected to receive a share of the impending snow storm sweeping the mideast portion of the country. 

According to a winter weather advisory issued late Thursday, a mix of freezing rain, sleet and snow will begin after 10 p.m. and will eventually change into snow in the early hours of Friday. 

Additionally, the area will be covered in a 'minor ice glazing' that could be up to one tenth of an inch and two to four inches of snowfall are expected. 

Not only will the roads be icy, wet and snowy Friday morning, but there could be areas of limited visibility and periods of heavy snow. Visibility is expected to be about one-half mile, according to the advisory. 

The heaviest snowfall is expected to be north of I-69 for Michigan. 

A hazardous weather outlook has also been issued for 10 counties in Michigan, including Wayne, Macomb and Oakland counties.
