New Home Store, F & H, Opens on the Hill
A new home store in Grosse Pointe Farms opened Saturday offering items ranging in price point from $8 to $25,000. The building, which formerly housed Bambu, was gutted and remodeled for F & H For the Home.
Nina Tocco says her new store, F & H For the Home, has something for everyone. The new business at 75 Kercheval on the Hill offers a variety of design options for homes from floor to ceiling and everything in the middle.
The new business opened Saturday.
Tocco, 29, grew up in Grosse Pointe Park. She went to school in Chicago for fine art with heavy emphasis in fine arts and fashion design. She had been living in Palm Beach before she moved back, where she worked for the Ritz Carlton as a merchandiser and purchaser.

After moving back to the Pointes, Tocco "fell in love with interiors," she said, explaining it had been an interest of her mother's for years. Meanwhile, the storefront at 75 Kercheval opened up when Bambu closed, spurring her to open her business.
The former restaurant was gutted down to the studs and remodeled with specific selections by Tocco with the intent to provide customers experience with real design options, she said.

The floor is just one example. It is concrete with the appearance of tumbled limestone, which means it's also "a fraction of the price," she said.
With heavy influences from Swedish and Belgian interior design, the options are varied between old and new--a "healthy balance" Tocco said she worked hard to achieve. She has a Dutch chandelier circa 1820s that was converted from true candle lighting to electric lighting and she has a mid-century handblown venitian glass chandelier.
Tocco is aiming to work with local businesses, designers and artists, she said, noting a specially produced ceramics line by an artist who lives on Neff Road and fires everything in the backyard. Additionally, she has flowers on display from Flowers by Gabrielle in the Park.
Everything in the store can be ordered, even in from the bathroom, she said. The showroom features items for a bedroom, sitting or living room, the dining room and even eclectic pieces that could be adapted to any room.
In addition to the showroom, Tocco has a large room housed in the rear of the store where the design work will happen, she said. Her goal is to make F & H a mini-design center for the east side, she said.
"I'm really excited to be a part of what's going on," Tocco said.
Among her goals as a new business owner: to attract business from not only the Pointes but also the west side, she said. Merchandise in the store ranges in price from $8 to $25,000, making it accessible to everyone, she said.
The store will be open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and by appointment only on Sundays. It will be closed on Mondays.
