Police Blotter: Park Investigates Car Thefts
The following information is gathered from the Departments of Public Safety of the Grosse Pointes. Arrests do not indicate conviction.

police are investigating a variety of vehicle thefts.
The first happened overnight from Aug. 20 to 21. The 1998 Jeep Cherokee was parked in the street near Wayburn and Charlevoix and was discovered missing about 2 a.m. Aug. 21. It had been parked there about 11:30 p.m. the night before and Detroit Police recovered the vehicle in 3300 block of Gratiot in Detroit about an hour after it was reported, according to a report.
In a similar case, a 2003 Jeep Liberty was found by police officers in an alley in the 900 block of Beaconsfield about midnight Aug. 23. The Jeep was running and had its ignition punched out. Officers contacted the owner, who hadn't realized yet that it had been stolen. The vehicle had been parked about 6 p.m. the same day, according to a report.

On Aug. 25, a 2008 Jonway Moped was stolen from the 1300 block of Wayburn. It had been parked in front of the house and was stolen between 1 to 8 a.m., according to a report.
Most recently, a 1998 Chrsyler Cirrus was stolen from the 1300 block of Berkshire overnight Aug. 26 to 27. The car was parked in the street about 11:45 p.m. Aug. 26 and discovered missing about 12:45 a.m. Aug. 27, according to a report.

Capt. David Loch said the cases are all under investigation and at this point there is no reason to believe the crimes involve one person or group of people versus multiple people.
Sprinkler Theft Nets Arrest
Grosse Pointe Park police arrested a 26-year-old man Aug. 20 after he stole a sprinkler from a store in the 15000 block of Kercheval. An employee watched the man take the sprinkler and then leave without paying. The man ran out of the store and officers found him nearby. He was arrested at the scene and is charged with retail fraud, according to a report.
Purse Stolen from Pool Deck
Grosse Pointe Park police are investigating the theft of a purse containing cash and a debit card from the pool deck. The purse was stolen between 1 to 2 p.m. Aug. 23 while the owner was swimming, according to a report.
Intoxicated Man Arrested
Grosse Pointe Park police arrested a 21-year-old resident Aug. 25 in the 15000 block of Charlevoix after he refused to follow officers directions and "became combative." Officers arrested him about 11 p.m. for disorderly conduct, according to a report.
