Police Blotter: Phone Number, Catalytic Converter Stolen in Grosse Pointe Woods

Telephone Number Stolen, Under Investigation
A Grosse Pointe Woods resident reported to police June 14 that his telephone number had been stolen by a man in Detroit. The resident told officers his home phone was working fine on June 9 but then on June 10 it was not working any longer. He called the telephone company and found out the number had been transferred to a Sprint account. When he contacted Sprint, officials said it was on a cell phone for a man from Detroit. They told him it was on an account with multiple phone lines. The resident also filed a complaint with the Michigan Public Utilities Commission. He had the phone number on his home line for seven years. The phone number has been suspended pending the outcome of investigations by AT&T and Sprint, according to a report.
Catalytic Converter Stolen

Grosse Pointe Woods police are investigating the theft of a catalytic converter from a car parked behind a business in the 21300 block of Mack Avenue. The car was parked behind the business by an employee and when the employee went to leave work at 6:30 p.m. June 13, he could not drive the car. He reported the theft June 14 and security cameras revealed a van with front end damage drove up to the area about 11:30 am. June 13, one person got out and then got back in a few minutes later before leaving, according to a report.
Credit Card Fraud Reported

A Grosse Pointe Woods resident reported to police that her credit card had been used fraudulently. The woman received a call from her credit card company seeking her approval on some purchases in Mayfield, Ohio. The resident told them they were not her charges. The card was cancelled. There were six charges totaling nearly $3,500, according to a report.
Damage Reported to Cars
Grosse Pointe Woods police are also investigating damage to the lock of a car parked in the 1500 block of Blairmoor Court. The owner went out to her car early June 13 to discover the damage. No one gained entry into the car, according to a report.
Similarly, a Grosse Pointe Woods resident reported to police that her husband's car was damaged while he was home briefly from the airport. He parked in in their driveway in the 1400 block of Huntington and when he returned to leave again, he discovered the damage. The car would not start. No one gained entry into the car. It was reported June 9 several hours after it was discovered, according to a report.
