Pursuit Ends in Crash, Arrest of Man, 18, in Grosse Pointe Park

The following information is gathered from the Departments of Public Safety of the Grosse Pointes. Arrests do not indicate conviction.

Grosse Pointe Park police arrested an 18-year-old man May 12 following a pursuit that went into Detroit and ended with a crash into a tree.

Officers initially stopped the man for an equipment violation on Mack Avenue shortly after midnight. The 18-year-old stopped the Dodge Durango he was driving briefly but then drove away, according to a report. 

A pursuit ensued on several Detroit streets. During the pursuit, the teen struck a curb and flattened both of the front tires on the SUV. He continued driving however, later crashing into a tree.

Neither the 18-year-old man nor were any of his three juvenile passengers injured during the crash, according to a report. 

All four were detained, according to Park police, near Mack and Ashland. The 18-year-old is charged with felony fleeing and eluding police.

During the investigation, officers found out the Durango belonged the teen's grandmother and was not a stolen SUV, according to a report.
