School Is Canceled, But Play And Wrestling Tourney Will Go On

With up to eleven inches of snow expected, Grosse Pointe Public Schools announced Friday’s closing Thursday evening.
With a winter storm on the way and meteorologists predicting snowfall of 9 to 11 inches across the area, nearly every school in Metro Detroit and still more in Washtenaw and Macomb counties announced Thursday that Friday classes would be canceled. By midnight, Click on Detroit’s school closings page listed over 700 area schools that had announced weather-related closures for Friday. With so much snow predicted for the morning, Grosse Pointe Public Schools joined this large group of schools and announced the cancellation of its Friday classes.
According to the schools' webpage, "Due to the impending storm GPPSS is closed tomorrow, Friday, February 9th." While classes are canceled, the evening performance of the Little Mermaid at Brownell Middle School will go on as planned, but the home freshman basketball games at both Grosse Pointe North and Grosse Pointe South High School are cancelled, as are all Friday practices and preschool classes. The wrestling tournament scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 10 at North High will be held as scheduled.
