This Week in Grosse Pointe: April 22

The Grosse Pointe Public School board will meet Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights. Candidates for the vacancy on the board will be interviewed Tuesday and a selection will be made Wednesday.

Here are some highlights of events scheduled this week in Grosse Pointe: 

1. The Grosse Pointe Public School Board will meet beginning at 7 p.m. Monday at Grosse Pointe North High School. According to the agenda, the board will: 

  • recognize district distinguished volunteers
  • discuss gifts from the Grosse Pointe Foundation for Public Eduction
  • discuss district goals
  • discuss a new textbook for advanced math
  • discuss obtaining a new line of credit for the 2013/14 school year

2. The Grosse Pointe Public School Board will meet beginning at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Grosse Pointe North High School to interview the 22 candidates being considered for the vacant position. The interviews will be conducted in public but will be run in a small group format with questions being asked by the school board members only. Three group interviews will be held, two groups of seven and one group of eight, with the League of Women Voters Grosse Pointe acting as the moderators.

3. The Grosse Pointe Public School Board will meet beginning at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Grosse Pointe North High School to make a decision about which of the 22 applicants wishing to serve on the board will be the ultimate choice. The decision must be made within 30 days of the date of vacancy, meaning the board has to make a decision this week because of when former board member Brendan Walsh provided his immediate notice.  

4. The Grosse Pointe Woods city council will meet as the committee of the whole Monday beginning at 7:30 p.m. According to the agenda, the committee will discuss:

  • the city's zoning ordinance restricting businesses from having a drive-thru
  • alcohol at Lake Front Park
  • parking meter fees, an all Grosse Pointe parking pass
  • a social media policy for employees

5. The Grosse Pointe Park city council will meet Monday beginning at 7 p.m. According to the agenda, the council will discuss:

  • Arbor Day poster contest winners
  • the finance report
  • a warranty plan for water sewer service line program
