This Week in Grosse Pointe: Feb. 25
Grosse Pointe Farms will have a special election; the Grosse Pointe Public School board and several city councils will meet; and the Shores Planning Commission will meet in a closed session regarding a request for one house on Lake Shore.

Here are the highlights of events in the Grosse Pointes this week:
1. Grosse Pointe Woods is holding a series of meetings Monday night beginning at 7 p.m. with the Compensation and Evaluation Committee. According to the agenda, the committee will discuss the evaluation of the city clerk.
At 7:30 p.m. the city council will meet. According to the agenda, the council will discuss:

- the 2013 Community Development Block Grant
- the 2012 annual report from public safety
- bids for a copier
- membership with Michigan Municipal League
At 8 p.m., the council will meet as the Committee of the Whole, which means no formal decisions can be made but discussion will happen. According to the agenda, finances will be discussed.
At 8:30 p.m., the Finance Committee will meet. According to that agenda, the committee will discuss a proposed budget presentation.

2. Grosse Pointe Farms residents will decide who will be the seventh city council member during a special election Tuesday. The polls will open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. The two candidates vying for the vacant position are Joe Ricci and Liz Vogel.
3. The second informational meeting with the U.S. Border Patrol concerning the proposed 50,000-watt radar for the 60-foot tower on the grounds of the Grosse Pointe Club is Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Grosse Pointe Memorial Church. Border Patrol agents will be on hand to answer questions of residents and provide some information about the project. The first meeting was Friday and drew about 20 people.
4. The City of Grosse Pointe council will meet Monday beginning at 7 p.m. According to the agenda, the council will discuss:
- site plan reviews for signs for CVS and the Grosse Pointe Art Center
- Neff Park marina dredging
- 2013 Community Development Block Grant
- preliminary 2013/14 fiscal year budget planning
- 2013 goals
5. The Grosse Pointe Shores Planning Commission will meet Tuesday beginning at 8 a.m. According to the agenda, the sole item to be discussed is a legal opinion regarding 529 Lake Shore Road, which will happen in a closed meeting.
6. The Grosse Pointe Park council will meet Monday beginning at 7 p.m. The agenda was not available at the time of publication because the city's website was not accessible.
7. The Grosse Pointe Public School Board will meet beginning at 7 p.m. Monday at Brownell Middle School. According to the agenda, the board will discuss:
- gifts from the Grosse Pointe Foundation for Public Education
- a bid for remodeling the life skills room of Pierce Middle School
- technology bids for cell phone service and WAN services
- appointments to the district's reinstatement review panel, which is a group of administrators, teachers and others who review the reinstatement of a student following expulsion
The board will also hear information on the following items, which will be voted upon during the next meeting:
- a change in curriculum for World Language
- district goals
- bids for remodeling restrooms at Mason, Richard and South
- continuation of the contract for Head Start
