This Michigan Farm Is Collecting Christmas Trees For Its Goats

The firs are a tasty and healthy snack for these goats who live on a 700-acre petting zoo and farm.

MICHIGAN — A farm in west Michigan is collecting discarded Christmas trees to feed their goats. Instead of Michiganders tossing their tree to the trash, owners of Lewis Farms & Petting Zoo in New Era say they are a seasonal delight for their goats BamBam, Becca, Bubba and Gump.

“We’ve been asking for tree donations after Christmas for a number of years now,” Cindy Lewis, who owns the farm with her husband, Scott, told the Free Press “The goats can devour a tree in a matter of minutes, they get very excited!”

The pine needles are good for the goats, the farm said. The needles are full of vitamin C, they help control worms, and apparently the animals — including the petting zoo's deer — find the firs delicious, the Freep reported.
