8-Year-Old Canton Boy Dies After Being Shot Tuesday

An 8-year-old boy was shot in Canton Tuesday afternoon after a gun was fired inside a home on Old Michigan Avenue, police said.

CANTON, MI — An 8-year-old boy was shot in Canton Tuesday afternoon after a gun was fired inside a home on Old Michigan Avenue, Canton Public Safety officials said in a news release.

After being taken to an area hospital, the boy died, according to ClickOnDetroit.

The boy was shot around 4 p.m., authorities said. An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting, according to authorities. Police did not say if the shooting was accidental.

"At this time there is no danger to the public, and we ask that you respect the privacy of the family," Police Chief Chad Baugh said in a statement.

"We ask our community to keep this family in your thoughts," the statement continued.
