Canton Man Charged With 18 Counts Of Criminal Sexual Conduct
If convicted, the man accused of the crimes could serve up to life in prison, officials said.

CANTON, MI — A 53-year-old Canton man has been charged with 18 counts of criminal sexual conduct, officials said Friday.
Shailesh K. Patel was formally charged in 35th District Court Thursday with 18 counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, Canton police said.
If convicted, Patel could serve up to life in prison, officials said.

The Canton Police Department began its investigation after a victim filed a report of being abused dating back several years, officials said. Investigators worked the case in conjunction with the FBI task force and Southeast Michigan Trafficking and Exploitation Crimes, police said.

Chief Judge James A. Plakas denied bail for Patel, instead remanding him to Wayne County Jail pending his next court date on Dec. 28, according to Canton police.
