Canton’s Second Annual Do Good Expo to Be Held September 11th

Canton's Do Good Expo was established so that Canton could join the hundreds of communities in a day of National Remembrance.

(Canton, MI – September 2, 2019) Area residents are encouraged to attend Canton’s Second annual Do Good Expo at the Summit on the Park on the National Day of Service and Remembrance, which marks the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.
Designated a national day of service by Congress in 2009, this national day of reflection and service was established to engage individuals in community service on 9/11 as an annual and forward-looking tribute to the 9/11 victims, survivors, and those who rose up in service in response to the attacks.
To celebrate and connect organizations and individuals who make a difference in our community, Canton Leisure Services will gather dozens of local non-profit, volunteer, and service-based organizations on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 from 6-8 p.m. in the Summit on the Park’s Banquet Center, located at 46000 Summit Parkway, Canton, MI, 48188.
“Canton’s Do Good Expo was established so that Canton could join the hundreds of communities across the county in a day of National Remembrance and Service,” said Laura Mortier, Recreation Specialist. “Our goal is to introduce individuals to groups dedicated to worthy causes and issues right here in our community, as well as give anyone who attends an opportunity to take part in special proactive community service projects specifically on 9/11.”
All ages are encouraged to attend this free event and take part in one of our hands-on community service projects, such as: fleece blanket weaving, kindness rock decorating, and letter writing to area first responders. Individuals specifically looking for community service hours are also strongly encouraged to attend. In addition, the first 50 participants will receive a FREE Do Good Expo T-Shirt.
A variety of local non-profits groups will be participating in the Do Good Expo, including: Canton Goodfellows; Canton Firefighters Charity Foundation; Miracle League; Canton Rotary Club; Literacy Council; Plymouth-Canton Vietnam Veterans Chapter 528, and more.
In an effort to support these participating non-profit organizations, the following items will be collected in a special donation drive:
• Canned or pantry food items
• New socks
• Cash or loose change
• Lotion, shaving cream
• Shampoo, conditioner, body wash, deodorant
• Razors
• Cleaning supplies
• New or used children’s books
• New toys and art supplies
• New winter hats and gloves
