Canton Seeks Road Repair Funding Solutions
'Costs to repair the bad roads is very high. Wayne County is financially constrained...' says a Canton official.
CANTON, MI — If you’ve heard the expression, “between a rock and a hard place,” that pretty much sums up Canton’s position in fixing roads and streets. Wayne County is responsible for about 65 percent of the township’s roads, but simply lacks the finances to make need repairs in a timely fashion, according to a Canton Observer report.
"Costs to repair the bad roads is very high. Wayne County is financially constrained and likely will be for a long time," Township Engineer Bill Serchak said during a recent roads forum in Canton. "Residents ultimately will have to fund the solution to this problem."
Township Supervisor Pat Williams organized the roads forum as a new Canton Roads Advisory Task Force begins the job of better identifying local roads and streets that need repairs, with possible options for how the township can proceed.
