City of Plymouth Police Department Offers Holiday Shopping Tips

Make sure to follow these safety tips while out shopping this holiday season.

The City of Plymouth is offering residents some advice while shopping this Holiday season.

Officer Tony Angelosanto, from the City of Plymouth Police Crime Prevention Bureau, provides some safety tips designed to make your shopping trips more safe and also have less worries:

  • Stay alert to your surroundings and the people around you
  • Shop with a friend, there is safety in numbers
  • Don’t buy more than you can carry safely
  • Avoid carrying large amounts of cash
  • Try and pay for purchases with a check, credit or debit card
  • Carry a purse by clutching it tightly under your arm or wear a fanny pack
  • Watch your purchases while eating at mall food courts. Bags can easily be switched or taken
  • Have your car keys in hand before leaving the store. A key can actually be used as a weapon if need be and the horn button on your keyless entry can sound an alert if you are attacked
  • If you do return to your vehicle to unload packages, place them in the trunk

Angelosanto also reminds residents that gift cards have been increasingly popular, and with them, more cases of fraud. Only purchase gift cards from reputable sources. Avoid online auction sales. When purchasing a gift card, carefully examine both sides of the card and look for signs of tampering. If you find anything questionable, ask for another card.
