Driver In I-275 Wrong Way Crash Identified

The 59-year-old Wolverine Lake man state police say is responsible for the crash has been released pending charges,

CANTON, MI — Wolverine Lake Councilman Michael Stack has been identified as the driver of the wrong-way vehicle that killed Shannon McIntyre and Nicholas Lee Pare Tuesday morning on I-275 in Canton Township, according to multiple media reports. Wolverine Lake Council President John Magee also indicated that it was Stack in a statement he read at a council meeting

“The Village of Wolverine Lake Municipal Office has received credible information that Wolverine Lake resident and council member Mike Stack was involved in an accident on i-275 in Canton Township, on Tuesday, December, 12th and was treated for his injuries,” Magee said in the statement. “We are heartbroken over the loss of life in this incident. our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected and their loved ones. Michigan State Police is conducted an investigation we will wait for the outcome before any additional statement is made.”

Pare, 33, and McIntyre, 32, were engaged to be married and have three children, according to an Oakland Press report. The Wayne residents died at about 10:45 a.m. Tuesday when a SUV allegedly driven by Stack hit them head-on as they traveled northbound on I-275 at Palmer Road.

Calls came in from drivers about Stack, 59, driving the wrong way at about 10:36 a.m., Michigan State Police Lt. Mike Shaw said. Stack was near Ford Road when the first call came in.

An investigation is ongoing. Michigan State Police told WWJ-Radio Wednesday it could up to six weeks before autopsy results are in on McIntyre and Pare. Charges against Stack would come after the case is presented to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office.
