Funeral For Fox 2 Anchor Ron Savage Set For Thursday In Milford

Journalist Ron Savage worked as a reporter and anchor for WJBK Fox 2 since 1999. The Milford resident was also a volunteer firefighter.

METRO DETROIT, MI - Funeral arrangements for longtime WJBK Fox 2 journalist Ron Savage have been set.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 1, from 1 - 9 p.m. at the Lynch and Sons Funeral Directors, 404 E. Liberty Street, in Milford. Services Thursday will be held at Our Lady of The Snows, 1955 E. Commerce Road in Milford, with visitation from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. Funeral services will follow immediately after visitation.

Savage died Saturday morning, Feb. 25, while participating in a training exercise with the Milford Fire Department, where he served as a volunteer. Lynch and Sons listed Savage’s cause of death as cardiac arrest.

Savage was 63. He is survived by his wife, Mitzi, and son, Ronnie.

His sudden passing came as a shock to the greater Detroit community. Well-known for his reporting on police and fire incidents, first-responders in the area reacted with dismay.

“Ron was a man who had a genuine concern for people,” Ferndale Police Det. Lt. William Wilson said in a statement. “He was a man of integrity. Professionally, he demonstrated that he believed in the importance of keeping the public informed with accurate and fair reporting.

“He was not concerned with getting a story out first in order to bring attention to himself, but he was cautious to be accurate and fair,” Wilson added. “He was sensitive to how his reports could people involved and delivered the news ethically. I was able to share confidential information with him knowing that he would not abuse the trust. He believed in helping people, and did so by his style of reporting.”

Savage had been with Fox 2 since 1999. Colleagues took to social media in an outpouring of grief and fond memories shortly after his passing:
