Georgia Man Accused Of Robbing Canton Township Bank: PD
Police said the man acquired an unknown amount of cash from the bank Nov. 5.
CANTON TWP., MI — A Georgia man faces the possibility of life imprisonment after being accused of robbing a Chase Bank in Canton Township.
Joe Stafford, 55, has been arraigned on one felony count of bank robbery, a charge punishable by up to life in prison, police said. Stafford also was charged as a habitual offender fourth, which could enhance the severity of his sentence.
Judge Michael Gerou of the 35th District Court set Stafford's bail at $250,000 and ordered a GPS tether if he posts bond, police said.

Stafford's next court date is scheduled for Dec. 4.
Canton Township police previously said they were seeking assistance in identifying a bank robbery suspect who they later said was identified as Stafford.

The bank robbery took place around 3:30 p.m. Nov. 5, police said. Police said they responded to the Chase Bank on Michigan Avenue and Old Canton Center after Stafford gave a note demanding money to the teller and grabbed an unknown amount of cash.
He was not armed and no injuries were reported, police said.
