Guardian Plumbing & Heating Reaches 50th Anniversary Milestone

Industry-Leading Service in Health Care, Education and Banking Industries

As an industry leading full-service plumbing contractor for the metro Detroit area, Guardian Plumbing & Heating is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. The company’s history includes a record as one of the leading contractors serving hospitals and health care providers in the region, where safety and controlled operations are of paramount concern. In doing so, Guardian has deep expertise in supporting infection control practices at health care facilities – a critical matter as an estimated 75,000 – 90,000 people die annually from hospital-acquired infections.

Incorporated in 1968, Guardian has focused on safety and loyalty, both with employees and customers. The company’s family-focused tradition means it understands employees are the business’s backbone. This has led to the retention of multiple long-time clients and numerous employees who have been with Guardian for more than 30 years.

Safety is a key component to Guardian’s ongoing success in retaining both employees and customers alike. Technician training begins with a five-year apprenticeship and continues with lifelong learning. As employees grow with the company, Guardian customers enjoy a stable working relationship with familiar faces who uphold the highest safety and expertise standards of the industry.

Andy D’Ascenzo founded the Company in 1966, operating like many small startups in those days out of his home basement, assisted in running the office by his wife Dolores. Guardian Plumbing & Heating was incorporated in 1968, the same year Tony D’Ascenzo joined the company.

A family company, Larry D’Ascenzo joined the company to assist with marketing in 1990. By 1997, he was Vice President of Sales and Service.

“We’re proud of our commitment to the highest quality service that has kept customers coming back for 50 years,” said Larry D’Ascenzo. “We also wouldn’t be where we are today without the dedicated employees who provide our customers with the best service around. Our commitment to the safety of our employees is just one way we treat them like family.”

Some important dates in Guardian’s history include:

  • Their first hospital customer, Metropolitan Hospital in Detroit, signs on in 1969.
  • Larry D’Ascenzo joins the company in 1990.
  • Named Contractor of the Year by the Michigan Plumbing and Mechanical Contractors Association in 2008.

Guardian has grown over the years. While maintaining their reputation among hospitals and health care providers, the business expanded to include schools and banks, both of which both require a high-level of trust from contractors. Guardian also works often with institutional sites and property management companies.

Overall, Guardian’s licensed professionals install and maintain all types of plumbing systems ranging from health care facilities, high rise office buildings, apartment complexes, schools, and industrial plants to the simple renovation and repairs of virtually any type of plumbing, piping, or heating system.
