Michigan Trainer Mike Barwis Lands New Show on Discovery Channel

Mike Barwis is bringing his no-nonsense approach to training to cable television with his new show "American Muscle," produced by Funny or Die.

His raspy voice will fill the living rooms of millions as he teams up with Discovery Channel and Funny or Die.

Mike Barwis, one of the best strength-training coaches in the world, has landed a sports docu-series with Discovery Channel and Funny or Die, reports broadwayworld.com .

The “American Muscle” trailer shows Barwis and his dedicated staff as they help paraplegics walk and get up, mess around with cups of urine, and bull riding. Barwis shows his unorthodox and unexpected approach to training – and his team is just as crazy as he is.

The new docu-series, which first aired June 9, takes place at the Barwis Methods Training Center located in Plymouth. Barwis combines his stern demeanor with encouragement to push his clients to the next level.

Barwis has trained more than 500 Olympic and professional athletes, making him the best in the industry. The head strength and conditioning coach at West Virginia University and University of Michigan, Barwis is has a degree in exercise physiology and athletic training, reports Patch.

This season, viewers will be able to watch Barwis and his team train athletes at the top of their fields, including Richard Sherman (Seattle Seahawks), Ndamukong Suh (Detroit Lions),  DeAndre Jordan (Los Angeles Clippers) and others.

Although Barwis’ methods might seem wacky, he has some of the best athletes in the world making their way to Detroit to train with him and his team. And now viewers can be a part of that journey, too.
