PARC Launches $30M Campaign To Restore School

Funds would be used to refurbish the old Plymouth High School and build a performing arts center.

PLYMOUTH, MI —The Plymouth Arts and Recreation Complex is launching a capital funding campaign to raise up to $30 million to preserve and re-purpose the historic former Plymouth High School/Central Middle School and add a new performing arts center. Approximately half of the funding would be used for repairs to the existing building and site infrastructure, and the other half for building the performing arts center, PARC said in a news release.

The non-profit has grown quickly with 27 arts, recreation, and education tenants occupying the former school. It’s pool, gym, small theatres, football field, and tennis courts are utilized by PARC.

In the recently completed Plymouth community recreation survey, PARC achieved strong results with close to 90 percent awareness among combined township and city residents. About 85 percent of those residents said PARC adds value to the community.

PARC will raise as much as possible through charitable donations from individuals, foundations, and companies. Naming and recognition opportunities associated with capital projects of varying amounts will be available to donors.

“With what has already been accomplished and is happening at Central Middle, plus what is attainable with the community’s support, the Plymouth Arts & Recreation Complex can become an incredible value-added asset for us all, with scope and quality that is unprecedented and superior to anything in this region,” Said Mark and Patty Malcolm. “It is rare for circumstances and actions to present such an opportunity, not only benefitting current residents, but also providing a lasting legacy contribution for generations to come.”
