P-CCS student-run radio station 88.1 the Park continued its tradition of excellence and recognition by state and national broadcast organizations this spring when the Michigan Association of Broadcasters Foundation named the station its 2021 High School Station of the Year.

This year's honor is the fourth straight year that 88.1 has been named Michigan's top high school radio station. It also represents the seventh consecutive year that the station has been named either a finalist for the National Association of Broadcasters' Marconi awards, or the MABF Station of the Year

The MABF recognized 15 Plymouth-Canton Educational Park students in their annual High School and College Awards show earlier this spring. P-CEP students received 15 of the 32 total awards presented in the high school radio category, including seven first place awards out of 11 categories.

“Our success starts with the great work our students produce. We’re especially proud because they added to our legacy of success during a very challenging year.” said station manager Bill Keith.

88.1 The Park is celebrating 49 years of serving the Plymouth and Canton Communities, and has continued that vital service during the COVID-19 pandemic. During the past year, the station covered everything from stay-at-home orders to calls for social justice at a time when local newspapers were eliminating reporter jobs. With indoor gatherings restricted, the station worked with the Park Players' theater company on a series of radio dramas, and  when Plymouth’s century-old Memorial Day parade became a car caravan, WSDP stepped up and provided the soundtrack.

"All of us at P-CCS could not be prouder of the 88.1 staff for their effort and well-deserved recognition," P-CCS Executive Director of Communications and Marketing Nick Brandon said. "Their work to inform and serve Plymouth-Canton while adapting to the challenges presented by the pandemic was exemplary, and they are a shining example of the strong relationship between the district and the community we serve."
