Perks for Early Arrivals at Plymouth Holiday Kickoff

The tree-lighting and Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign kickoff signal the beginning of the holidays in downtown Plymouth.

The Plymouth Downtown Development Authority’s annual Boulevard Tree Lighting and Salvation Army Red Kettle Kickoff will be held Friday evening in Kellogg Park.

Trees along the Main Street and throughout downtown will be lighted for the holidays during the event, which is also the kickoff for the Plymouth Corps of the Salvation Army’s largest annual fund-raiser.

Events start with holiday music by a Salvation Army brass band at 6:30 p.m., followed by a short ceremony at 7 p.m., when a young Plymouth resident will turn on the switch to light the trees.

The first 100 people to show up will get a special gift from the Salvation Army, and food vendors will serve free hot chocolate and coffee.

Several businesses will also have open houses, allowing those attending to get an early start on their holiday shopping. Those bringing non-perishable food items for the Plymouth Corps’ emergency food pantry will be entered for a chance to win gift certificates at participating merchants.
