PETA Offers $5K Reward After 19 Puppies Abandoned In A Cardboard Box

Police are still searching for the person responsible for abandoning 19 puppies in a cardboard box in Plymouth's Hines Park on Dec. 28.

PLYMOUTH, MI — The culprit responsible for abandoning 19 puppies in a urine-soaked cardboard box in Hines Park is still on the loose. Now, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is offering up to a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this crime, according to a press release.

A jogger in Hines Park discovered the puppies on Dec. 28 upon hearing "little yelps." Nine male and 10 female pit bull terrier mixed breed puppies estimated to be roughly 4-weeks-old were squished on top of each other in a cardboard box. The Good Samaritan and her sister rushed the puppies to the Humane Society of Huron Valley. The pups are now in foster care and will be available for adoption when they're old enough.

"These helpless puppies were abandoned and left to starve or freeze to death in the winter cold," PETA Vice President Colleen O'Brien said in a statement. She continued, "PETA urges anyone with information about this case to come forward immediately so that whoever dumped these dogs can be held accountable for putting 19 lives in danger."
