Plymouth Eatery Has License Suspended Over Coronavirus Violations

Greek Islands Eatery in Plymouth violated state-issued capacity limits twice in February, the state said.

PLYMOUTH, MI — A Plymouth business has had its liquor license and permits suspended after state health officials reported that it violated state-issued coronavirus restrictions on at least two occasions in February.

Greek Islands Eatery, 306 S. Main St., had its licenses and permits suspended in an emergency suspension issued by the Michigan Liquor Control Commission Tuesday, according to a report from the state.

The state reported that the business violated Michigan's 2021 Gatherings and Face Mask order issued on Feb. 4 that prohibited businesses to offer indoor dining to more than 25 percent of their normal capacity, among other limitations.

According to the emergency suspension report, Plymouth police were called to the eatery on Feb. 26 for an inspection following reports that the business had been having too many customers within its building in violation of the Feb. 4 order.

Once inside the business, police reported seeing about 50 people inside, which is roughly 20 people more than its 25 percent capacity limit, according to the state summary report.

Police spoke with the business owner, who acknowledged having too many customers inside the building, according to the report.

Police were again called to the business on Feb. 27 following a report that a party bus had stopped at the eatery. When officers entered the building they saw about 100 people inside, again in violation of the order, according to the summary report.

The majority of the customers "were standing and not wearing face masks, and the people were not social distancing," the report reads.
