Plymouth Library Author Fair Goes Virtual

The Annual Author Fair at the Plymouth District Library has a new look this year. A lot of work went into it, and I think you'll love it!!!

Celebrating the work of local published authors, sharing writing tips with peers, talking with readers, selling books – all are good reasons for a community to host an author fair. For the last 11 years, that is what the Plymouth District Library has done. But with the building closed and
the Stay Home/Stay Safe order still in place, plans for the 2020 Author Fair 2020, scheduled for May 16, had to be retooled.

Adult reference librarian, Dee Beaver, set about to recreate an online event and has done just that. Twenty-one authors will be showcased online all next week, between Saturday, May 16 – Saturday, May 23. Each day, on the Library’s social media accounts (Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook), there will be posted graphics for select authors and a link to plymouthlibrary.org with digital images of their books, instructions on where to purchase their books, as well as written interviews with each author. Some of the authors have even provided videos of themselves reading their work.

One popular feature of past author fairs, was a prize drawing for attendees. This year, virtual attendees will complete a quick online quiz about the authors and then entered into a drawing. Winners will get to select from a list of prizes, to include books donated by the authors, as well as local gift cards.

“This was a challenge, “explained Dee Beaver. “Though we cannot meet the authors in person, we hope this version of the event will help to highlight a talented group of people who might otherwise go unrecognized in the community this year.”
