Plymouth VFW Post Distributing Remembrance Poppies This Week
Plymouth VFW will be distributing Remembrance Poppies in the Plymouth-Canton area, with proceeds going to help local veterans in need.

This week you will see our nation’s veterans throughout the country distributing remembrance poppies. The remembrance poppy has been used since 1920 to commemorate soldiers who have died in war. Inspired by the World War I poem, In Flanders Fields, they were first used to commemorate American soldiers who died in that war (1914–1918), and in the United States, the Veterans of Foreign Wars conducted the first nationwide distribution of remembrance poppies before Memorial Day in 1922.
The members of VFW Post 6695 in Plymouth will be out in the Plymouth-Canton area distributing remembrance poppies to all who would like one. They will also be taking donations for these poppies to help our veterans. The funds raised will go to the Veterans Relief Fund at VFW Post 6695.
The Veterans Relief Fund helps our local veterans who may be having a hard time. This could be anything from helping to make a mortgage or rent payment, to helping put some groceries in the refrigerator for a veteran or their family who may be having a rough stretch financially.

Personally, I can’t think of a better way to thank our local veterans for their service, than to give them a hand up when needed. Any money donated stays here to help our local veterans who are having a hard time of it. This is a completely volunteer effort, so all money given, is distributed throughout the year to our local vets in need.
Our veterans, and associates will be out on Thursday, May 5th, Friday, May 6th, and Saturday, May 7th. If you have an extra dollar or two, and would like to support our local veterans, they would be greatly appreciative, but even if you can’t donate, you can certainly get a poppy to wear for free, to honor those that have given their lives while serving our nation.
