Canton Police Department to Offer Online Citizen Reporting

The system allows people to report select incidents online instead of making a trip to the police station.

Online Citizen Police Reporting will become available for a select number of incidents through the Canton Police Department beginning Dec. 1.

The CLEMIS-based online reporting system can be accessed on the home page of the department’s website at www.cantonpublicsafety.org.

“This new reporting system is being offered to the public as a convenience to victims of reportable incidents that do not require an immediate police response or investigation,” Deputy Police Chief Scott Hilden said. “The online reporting system will not negate a victim’s option to report the incident in person at the police station, or for a police officer to respond on-scene to take their report.”

Incidents that will be able to be reported online will include:

  • Identity Theft (with no suspects)
  • Theft (with no suspects)
  • Lost Property
  • Damaged Property / Vandalism
  • Private Property Vehicle Crash – Parked unattended, returned to find it had been struck
  • Harassing phone calls (with no suspects)

The reporting system is simple to use, with instructions provided as the person goes through the process. Once the information has been submitted, the person will receive a confirmation number that the report has been sent to the Canton Police Department for review. Within 72 hours the person will receive a notice from the department that the report was approved with instructions on how to obtain a copy, or not approved with an explanation as to why.

Further questions regarding the online reporting system can be directed to the Canton Police Department at 734-394-5400.
