The medical examiner said on Jan. 3 the girl had suffered multiple traumatic injuries on several places on her body and at multiple ages, signs that indicated she had been a battered child.

Police had gone to Diaz's home on Monday, Jan. 1, after receiving a report of an unresponsive girl. There, officers found the girl's family members trying to revive her. The girl had suffered extreme burns to her extremities, according to police.
