Truck Crashes, Knocks Down 8 Utility Poles In Canton, Police Say

The crash has caused widespread power outages in the area, and it may be "some time" before power is restored, police said.

CANTON, MI — A truck crash has downed eight utility poles on Haggerty Road in Canton, causing widespread power outages in the area, according to Canton police.

Crews from the Canton Fire Department and DTE are at the scene of the crash, according to police. Utility poles and wires are blocking the roadway, prompting authorities to close Haggerty Road between Palmer Road and Michigan Avenue.

According to the DTE outage map, 529 customers are without power.

Traffic lights in the area may also be impacted by the power outage, police said, adding that drivers should treat intersections where traffic lights are out as four-way stops.

Police also warned residents to remain at least 20 feet from any downed wires and to be patient as the power restoration "will take some time."
