How To Donate Extra Halloween Candy To Troops
For the 10th year, the Oakland County Sheriff's Office will be collecting candy and letters to send to troops overseas.

OAKLAND COUNTY, MI — Maybe you bought too much Halloween candy this year. Perhaps you want to stop your kiddo from consuming excessive amounts of sugar this season. Maybe it's even a family lesson in giving. There's a good local cause to give it to.
For the 10th year, the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office is accepting Halloween candy as part of its annual ‘Treats for Troops." The donations of candy are used to send thanks, encouragement, and sweets to America's troops overseas.
“Treats for Troops is a great way parents can participate in a community service project with their kids while showing our troops we support them back home,” said Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard. He encourages parents and children wishing to participate to include notes — like thank you letters, cards for the holidays, etc. — to the troops with the donation.

How it works
Halloween candy must be individually wrapped and no chocolate should be included.
Schools are also encouraged to do candy collection with students, the Sheriff's Office said.
