City Buildings Remain Closed In Royal Oak Due To Power Outage

Nearly half of Royal Oak is without power, including city buildings.

ROYAL OAK, MI — City buildings are closed Tuesday, April 17 as they are without power from the messy Michigan weather. Royal Oak is one of the dozens of cities across southeastern Michigan to be impacted by a DTE power outage from over the weekend as the winter storm spreads throughout the state.

Until further notice, residents should direct non-emergency calls to 248-545-6672 or 248-545-6632, as the police department is experiencing phone issues. In the case of an emergency, you should call 9-1-1; the emergency phone number is unaffected by the power loss.

City Hall, library, farmers market, 44th District Court, Mahany/Meininger Senior Center and DPS Facility remain without power and are closed again.

Police estimate the ice storm knocked out power to about half of Royal Oak including almost all city facilities. They’ve been advised not to expect power at the core facilities until sometime Tuesday night.

Residents without power are invited to warm up at the Salter Center, 1545 E Lincoln Ave. Staff will be sure to treat guests with warmth and they have coffee, too.
