ROYAL OAK, MI — That special twinkle of the Christmas tree only lasts a little bit longer and then it's time to decide how to get rid of it if its a real tree. Royal Oak residents have several options.
Here's a look at how to dispose of live trees in the city:
Pickup
Christmas trees are collected in Royal Oak during the first two weeks of January. Trees will be collected curbside for recycling on your regular trash day by a private chipping contractor.

Residents should place the tree separate from trash at the curb by 7 a.m. without any decorations, lights, stands and plastic bags.
Christmas trees will still be collected after the first two weeks in January, city officials said, but they will instead go into the trash and not be recycled after this time period.

Drop off
If residents miss curbside Christmas tree collection, they can take to SOCRRA, 995 Coolidge, for free for disposal through March 31.
