Here's an overview of what you need to know if you have a kindergartener in Royal Oak.

ROYAL OAK, MI — Royal Oak Schools will host Kindergarten Parent Information Night at each of the district’s six elementary schools on Jan. 29, 2020. The informational session provides a time for parents of incoming kindergarten students to visit the school and meet current kindergarten teachers.

Parents are encouraged to attend, see the building and learn about the curriculum.

The parents-only event will be at 6:30 p.m. Those with kindergarten-aged children are invited to attend their home school’s presentation.

  • Northwood Elementary, 926 W. 12 Mile
  • Oak Ridge Elementary, 506 E. 13 Mile
  • Oakland Elementary, 2415 E. Brockton
  • Upton Elementary, 4400 Mandalay

Resident student enrollment for the 2020-2021 school year will begin at 7:30 a.m. on Jan 30, 2020. All enrollments are completed at the district central enrollment office, located at 800 DeVillen, Royal Oak, MI 48073.

Parents can visit royaloakschools.org/district/enrollment

to complete pre-enrollment forms.

Royal Oak welcomes Schools of Choice students from Oakland County in kindergarten through eighth grades for the 2020-2021 school year. Applications for Schools of Choice will be available beginning March 2, 2020 both online and at the district central enrollment office.

They will be accepted March 2 through March 27 at 4:30 p.m. Students enrolled through Schools of Choice may continue in Royal Oak Schools through grade 12, as long as their enrollment is continuous. School placement for students enrolling through Schools of Choice is determined on a space-available basis.

Michigan state law requires that a child be five (5) years of age on or before September 1, 2020 in order to enroll in kindergarten for the 2020-2021 school year. Information regarding enrollment of children with birthdays between September 1, 2020, and December 1, 2020, in kindergarten for the 2020-2021 school year may be obtained by visiting the enrollment section of the district website www.royaloakschools.org.
