Royal Oak Seeks Art For Downtown Display
Royal Oak is looking for its newest pieces of artwork to be displayed in the community.

ROYAL OAK, MI — Royal Oak is looking for its newest pieces of artwork to be displayed in the community. The Royal Oak Commission for the Arts has announced its 2018 Call for Artist for the Art Explored Program and interested artists have until May 1 to submit their proposals. The work will be displayed throughout downtown Royal Oak as a one-year loan to the city.
“Each year we get excited about the new artwork that comes to our community,” said Jason Gittinger, chair of the Royal Oak Commission for the Arts. “It is an honor and a great responsibility to be able to select and bring art to our city that will provide daily examples of the benefits of public art. Public art is accessible to all and the passion that surrounds it is infectious. Seeing the varied reactions of community members inspires discussions and reactions that might not otherwise take place.”
Up to 10 pieces will be selected to be featured around the city. Since 2013, the program has brought many different works to downtown Royal Oak including Desiree Kelly’s Abe in Shades and Michael Jones’ Considering Evolution. For more information, visit www.romi.gov/arts.
