Westbound I-696 Closed This Weekend In Oakland County
As part of the larger project to "Restore the Reuther," the westbound stretch of highway will close throughout Oakland County all weekend.

OAKLAND COUNTY, MI — Westbound I-696 in Oakland County will be closed this weekend as officials continue the “Restore the Reuther” project that has the stretch of highway through Macomb County closed down until November. Starting at 9 p.m. Friday, westbound I-696 will close from Dequindre Road to US-24. It will reopen at 5 a.m. Monday, in time for the morning rush hour.
The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) began to "Restore the Reuther" at the end of April with the complete closure of westbound I-696 in Macomb County from I-94 to Dequindre Road.
This weekend will be the first I-696 closure in Oakland County, which has had only lane closures over nights for saw cutting and shoulder closures for drainage improvements.
Here’s your recommended detour: westbound M-102 (8 Mile Road) to M-10 to US-24 (Telegraph Road) or westbound I-696, with access from I-94 in Macomb County and I-75 in Oakland County.
Eastbound I-696 remains open in Oakland and Macomb counties.
