Driver Leads Police on Chase to Finish Smoking Joint: Report
Police said a Michigan motorist explained he wanted to finish his joint because he knew he was headed to jail.

SHELBY TOWNSHIP, MI – Unbelievable as it may sound, this is true:
A 36-year-old Clinton Township motorist didn’t try to cover up his motives for allegedly speeding away from Michigan State Police and Shelby Township police officers Sunday. He indicted himself with the truth.
He wanted to finish smoking a joint and make a call to his family because he knew he would would be going to jail when police discovered marijuana in his vehicle and a Florida warrant for his arrest, Michigan State Police said in a statement.

His truthfulness didn't curry any favor with police, though. Authorities booked him at the Macomb County Jail for operating under the influence.
The pursuit started around 5:35 p.m. when state troopers tried to stop the man’s Lincoln Continental on southbound M-53 near 30 mile in Washington Township for having an improper plate.

He kept going, but “motioned as if he was going to pull over with his cell phone in his hand,” police said.
He didn’t, though, and instead “raised his finger, signaling that he would pull over in one minute,” according to the police.
When Shelby Township police joined the pursuit, a trooper pulled in front of the Lincoln and boxed it in. The driver was forced to stop on the M-53 shoulder.
That’s when the driver explained “he wanted to call his family, and finish his marijuana joint” and that “he had a warrant out of Florida, that there was marijuana in the vehicle, and that he knew he was going to jail," police said.
Police discovered not only the arrest warrant from Florida, for which he faces extradition, but several other arrest warrants as well. A search of the vehicle yielded marijuana and alcohol, police said.
