GarageBand Music Hosts Restringing Event For Earth Day

The Historic Downtown Utica music store will invites area musicians to recycle instrument strings - and receive a new set, free - April 21.

UTICA, Mich. -- GarageBand Music in Utica will celebrate Earth Day Saturday, April 21 at 1:00 p.m. with a free recycle and restring event. Area musicians are invited to bring in instrument strings for recycling and get a free set of electric or acoustic guitar strings made either the event sponsor, D’Addario NYXL or by Nickel Bronze Acoustic strings. Playback, a national recycling program for instrument strings maintained by D’Addario, will recycle all the materials collected during this event.

D’Addario calls Playback “the world’s first instrument string recycling program.” Created by D’Addario in partnership with international recycling company TerraCycle, Playback connects to D’Addario’s Players Circle loyalty program, so when registered users recycle used strings through Playback, they get extra Players Circle points. Attending the April 21 recycle and restring event gets you a code redeemable for Players Circle points, too, according to the company.

Players Circle members use points to buy merchandise and can also donate them to the D’Addario Foundation, a nonprofit that supports music education in underserved communities. Since beginning the program, Players Circle has recycled 1.7 million strings, and has a goal of 2.5 million strings worldwide. A quarter pound of recycled strings gets you 100 Players Circle Points, according to D’Addario. For more information about recycling through Playback, visit D’Addario online.
