Rep. Wozniak: Driver’s licenses for illegals devalues citizenship

Lawmaker responds to the governor's latest policy push

State Rep. Doug Wozniak, of Shelby Township, voiced his opposition today to Gov. Whitmer’s latest policy push to issue driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants.

According to Wozniak, this policy is against state law and he has vowed to fight against any legislation proposing a change.

“Issuing a driver’s license to illegal immigrants legitimizes illegal immigration and devalues American citizenship,” Wozniak said. “It threatens the sovereignty of our state and nation if we reward those who break the law by living here illegally. The governor should be concerned with the real issues faced by our constituents instead of worrying about illegal immigrants being issued a driver’s license.”

Another issue with illegal immigrants being issued a driver’s license is potential voter fraud.

“Nothing is more important than upholding the integrity of our elections system,” Wozniak said. “By issuing driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants, we are opening the door to increased voter fraud.”
