Shelby Township Police Chief On Leave Over Tweets: Report

The Shelby Township police chief is on administrative leave over tweets he is accused of posting that reportedly promote police brutality.

SHELBY TWP., MI — Robert Shelide, the chief of police in Shelby Township, has been placed on paid administrative leave as officials investigate a series of tweets he is accused of posting that promoted police brutality.

WXYZ reported Thursday that Shelide's name and likeness was used on a Twitter account that has since been deleted. The account reportedly posted one tweet that, in reference to President Donald Trump potentially deploying members of the military to break up street violence across the nation, said: “I have a better idea: unleash the real cops and let them take care of these barbarians. I promise it will be over in 24 hours.”

In reference to people looting in New York City, another tweet reportedly stated: “Wild savages. I wish to God I would have been there. Body bags for these vicious subhumans. Oh, on another note, I dare you to try and drag me out of my vehicle.”
