Shelby Township Police Warn Residents Of Scams

The department said some scammers are telling people they are Shelby Township police officers.

SHELBY TWP., MI — The Shelby Township Police Department said Tuesday it has been receiving several calls about scam artists identifying themselves as police officers and asking for money.

"These fraudsters are calling and identifying themselves as Shelby Twp. Police Officers and asking for money, either for donations to the department or for court costs and fines," the department said in a news release.

The department reiterated that it will never solicit money or fundraiser over the phone. It also said anyone demanding payment through a gift or iTunes card is a scammer.
