Utica Community Schools students from five Destination Imagination teams qualify for World Finals

Teams qualify for international tournament after taking top regional and state honors

After achieving top honors for creativity, teamwork and innovation in regional and state academic tournaments, five teams featuring Utica Community Schools students have earned the right to compete in Destination Imagination's Global Finals in May.

Students from Ebeling and Beacon Tree Elementary Schools, Davis, Heritage and Jeannette Junior High Schools, Stevenson High School and the Utica Academy for International Studies have qualified to compete with other international teams in one of seven, open-ended challenges that require students to apply science, technology, engineering and math skills during May 24-27 in Knoxville, Tennessee.

“We are proud to have such a large number of students continue our history of success in Destination Imagination,” Superintendent Dr. Christine Johns said. “This program helps build skills that our business leaders say is critical to their workforce – problem solving, innovation and the ability to work in teams.”
